"Embrace the Games" in Cheshire & Warrington

Image

Cheshire & Warrington 2012 Steering Group commissioned Prospects4Sport to produce a framework which resulted in the publication of 'Embrace the Games'.

Following the Beijing Olympics, the four year Cultural Olympiad programme was recently launched in the UK. This, combined with a Northwest 2012 Games Legacy Framework already in place, prompted key partners within Cheshire & Warrington to explore the opportunity of developing a sub-regional 2012 Games Legacy Framework to maximise the opportunities the Games can bring for local people, communities and businesses.

Our work involved:

  • reviewing the national legacy strategies and the regional legacy framework and how they would inform the framework
  • consulting key stakeholders in the sub-region to make them aware of the benefits of the 2012 Games, and also to understand the existing activity related to 2012
  • talking to the seven local authorities, the local economic alliance, the Northwest Development Agency, Visit Chester and Cheshire and the cultural sector to find out their aspirations for sport and physical activity, the Cultural Olympiad, tourism and visitor economy, and business opportunities
  • writing and producing 'Embrace the Games', the framework document identifying a vision, ambitions and proposed actions across the four themes and the next steps to implement the framework.

The document was launched at an event at MMU Cheshire, which was attended by Lord Coe. This document is considered key by the Cheshire & Warrington 2012 Steering Group as a means to enthuse the public, private and voluntary sectors with regard to the potential the 2012 Games bring. Consequently the framework clearly highlights the benefits available across the four themes, whilst setting out some challenging ambitions and proposed actions.

"This was as you know an important publication for us but we were also under tight deadlines re completion and accordingly you have successfully delivered by producing exactly what we required on time. I know that all the members of the project team were impressed by your professionalism throughout the project and I am therefore sure that we will be seeking to work with you in the future."
