HE & FE Strategy for the East Midlands
Prospects4Sport undertake Strategy and Action Planning for HE and FE.
How can HE and FE institutions work effectively with other organisations who are involved in sport? What links are there between School Sports Partnerships, Local Authorities, National Governing Bodies of Sport and Further and Higher Education?
A major study undertaken by Prospects4Sport on behalf of Sport England (East Midlands), British Colleges Sport (BCS) and University & College Sport (UCS) resulted in:
- A regional framework for HE/FE to clarify the roles of all organisations
- Five County Action Plans with all institutions working together
- Recommendations relating to a regional co-ordinator (now in post) and College Sports Co-ordinators, the forerunner to FESCos
- A significant amount of advocacy work to promote the importance of sport in the HE and FE sectors
The creation of local partnerships was a major outcome of the work. These partnerships aimed to:
- increase participation amongst 16-24 year olds as a priority group
- increase participation of staff, community groups, under-represented groups
- increase levels of performance and opportunities to compete
- improve access to facilities through community use of educational facilities
- increase quality and quantity of individuals available and willing to work in sport and recreation, either as a volunteer, official, coach, or administrator.
