Top Tips for Delivering Intra-College Competition
Following an earlier evaluation of pilot Further Education Sport Coordinators (FESCos) in FE Colleges 2008, Prospects4Sport was commissioned to undertake an evaluation of a pilot scheme to increase the number of students participating in intra-college competition.
The objectives of the pilot scheme were:
• To provide a knowledge platform for the FESCo network to support the continued growth of intra-college competition (to support the year on year 5% growth target)
• To provide some clear research/evidence/case studies to help the FESCo network achieve the following:
- increased participation in intra-college competition amongst young people aged 16-19 years by 5% growth year on year
- increased leadership of intra-college competition by young people for young people
- strengthen links between intra and inter-college competition
- strengthen intra/inter college competition through community/club links.
To undertake the evaluation we consulted with the FESCos involved in the pilot scheme during design and development of their competition programme and once the competition programme was underway. We also visited a number of colleges to see the competitions in action. A post project evaluation survey was then carried out along with telephone consultation with the pilot colleges.
A final report was submitted to the YST highlighting issues, successes, conclusions and recommendations for other colleges in relation to developing and delivering future intra-college competition opportunities. Prospects4Sport also prepared a short summary document for the Youth Sport Trust which sets out Top Tips for delivering successful intra-college competition.
