Training Courses
This full day course is designed to help people understand how colleagues have different working approaches, but how this can be utilised to make a balanced team by understanding personality types, external factors and how to deal with specific issues. Participants will also learn tools for effective communication, including effective meetings, negotiation skills, giving and receiving feedback, and conflict resolution.
This course is not a generic training course for running meetings, rather it will give your officers all the necessary skills and understanding for running meetings in their environment, whether that be a small team meeting or a multi agency event for 50 people. Participants will learn how to approach meetings differently, watch behaviour in meetings and understand this is more than just personality, demonstrate a flexible approach to keeping meetings engaging and effective.
Developing Facilitation Skills
An essential tool for sports development professionals, facilitation can help you to run events effectively and ensure that all your partner organisations have their say during consultation. This course provides practice on the essential facilitation skills for anyone who needs to bring organisations together or facilitate discussions on a more regular basis.
The content of this course focuses not only on the theory of project management (planning, setting objectives, clarifying roles and responsibilities) but also, and more importantly, on the good and poor examples of project management in a range of sports organisations at national, regional, county and local level. We examine what makes a good project, how and why communication can break down, and when to use and (when not to use) tools such as PRINCE2® , Microsoft project and others.
The full or half day course, which is directed at both officers and managers, is not just about preparing a presentation or event, but the skills needed to run a session. Participants will learn about planning and structuring a presentation, how to use visual aids more confidently, how to manage the audience and deal with questions more positively, including developing techniques for audience participation, and most importantly how to overcome anxiety and build confidence.
Understanding the Sporting Landscape
This course is designed for all officers working across the different sectors who are involved in some way in the development of, management of and the delivery of sport and physical activity, but particularly those new to this sector. Participants will learn about the different national, regional and local strategies and policies, understand the roles and responsibilities of different organisations and develop a personal action plan on how they will use the information and who they need to be working with.
